The design of the Large Space Telescope is described and some characteristics of the LST spacecraft are presented. A table listing the characteristics of astronomical instruments borne by the spacecraft is given. A schematic outline of the infrared photometer conceived for the LST is presented. The photometer operates in the wavelength range 1 micron to 1 mm and contains a dewar of liquid He which will maintain the detectors at a temperature of less than 2 K, a chopper for removing brackground offset, two detectors and a set of variable apertures and filters for each detector.
