We construct 2D potential magnetic fields for modelling pre-flare magnetic field structures. We ask the question how the application of magnetic shear components, i.e. components of the magnetic field in the invariant direction, could be a source of stationary reconnection. We also ask how this is coupled to the localized non-idealness which produces field aligned electric field components, indicating that magnetic reconnection takes place.
