It is noted that the polarization of resonance radiation is very sensitive to the effect of external magnetic fields and that interference between the Zeeman components of such radiation for quasi-degenerate levels yields a linearly polarized line with a rotating plane of polarization, provided the exciting light has a broad spectrum. Polarization of resonance radiation in a weak magnetic field is analyzed, and it is shown that the rotation angle and the degree of polarization are determined by the magnetic-field intensity. Possibilities of applying this effect as a method for determining the magnetic fields of astrophysical objects are considered. The magnitude of the effect is estimated for several forbidden lines of the solar corona and Seyfert galaxy nuclei as well as for some cometary molecular and atomic lines.
