The present self-consistent investigation of the interaction phase of the converging flux model for the formation of coronal X-ray bright points uses MHD simulations in which the 3D dynamical evolution of two mutually approaching magnetic structures of opposite polarity is studied. The results thus obtained support the view that magnetic reconnection is the fundamental process responsible for the existence of X-ray bright points; there may, however, be local compressional plasma heating during ideal phases without reconnection.
