The optical system of LAMOST consists of a reflecting Schmidt correcting plate MA and a spherical primary mirror MB. Both MA and MB are segmented mirrors. Each segment is a hexagonal sub-mirror with a 1.1-m diagonal. This paper calculates the detailed diffraction energy distribution of the optical system in observing different sky areas and fields when the star is on the meridian. It also calculates the diffraction energy distribution of the optical systems when MB is a single 6-m mirror while MA is kept unchanged and when each segment of MA and MB is a 1.5-m hexagonal sub-mirror.
