In the light of a discovery by Chandra, that the jet in Pictor A is a strong source of X-ray emission, we wish to use the ATCA to produce images of the source at 4.8 GHz, concentrating on imaging the jet. The ATCA at this frequency, and with multiple configuration observations, in combination with the broadband upgrades to the correlator, should produce images with greater dynamic range and image fidelity than those previously published from ATCA or VLA observations, which only weakly detected the jet. We wish to compare the Pictor A radio and X-ray jet structures and attempt to constrain the X-ray emission mechanism. These observations will also complement new deep (120 ks) X-ray observations with Chandra that have been proposed to detect spectral changes along the jet and counter-jet.
