Many features of the internal structure of the earth's crust are mirrored in the relief of the ocean floor. A broadened understanding of underwater topography, beginning with the discovery of midoceanic ridges, rift valleys, and magnetic anomalies, led to the theory of global tectonics. The principle tectonic elements of midoceanic ridges are examined and their bathymetric levels are compared with the age of oceanic basins. Contradictions can be mitigated by considering the idea that internal parts of lithospheric plates have tectonic mobility. It is concluded that the development of the oceanic morphostructure is related to the age of the crust. The older the crust is, the more contrast the morphostructure will have. The evolution of the oceanic morphostructure is determined by the zonality of tectonic processes.
