The galaxy (or system of galaxies) VV 617 has been observed with the 6-m reflector. The emission-line widths correspond to approximately 1000 km/sec, so the object is apparently a Seyfert Type 2 galaxy. Although very faint in the B wavelength band, the nucleus is exceptionally bright in R. If its color excess is due to selective absorption in the galaxy, then the nucleus would have an absorption-corrected luminosity comparable with, or even greater than, the luminosity of the remainder of the galaxy.
