It is argued that the low luminosity of the supernova that produced the Cas A remnant may be an indication that the explosion also produced a black hole. Evidence is discussed that a neutron star was not formed and that the mass of the progenitor star was not less than 20 solar masses. It is concluded that the gravitational collapse in Cas A ended in the formation of a black hole.
