The standard error of a star's position at any epoch and that of its proper motion can be significantly reduced when additional independant estimates of such quantities are considered for the computation of improved values. In this investigation a total of five independant star catalogues (the AGK3, AGK2, AGK1, LuGyll, and BerPra) were combined to provide a reference frame of optimum precision. This new reference system has been applied through reductions of three plates to the galactic cluster NGC 752, and as expected, plate solution residuals have decreased by approximately 10-15%. Unfortunately, an unknown systematic effect originating from the delination system of the AGK1 star catalogue has increased the plate solution residuals in two of the three available plates of NGC 752. The absence of this effect in one of the plates indicates that it may be spurious. Positions derived for 483 stars are available for later use in determining proper motions of stars in the region of this cluster.
