The marked quasi-periodic fluctuations around 120 d in the polar motion
series is confirmed using the new technique of wavelet transform. It is
shown that atmospheric excitation is the main driver of the short-period
variations in the frequency range studied. The preference of El
Niño events for certain phases in the quasi-periods is noted.
