Measured intensities of H-alpha and H-beta lines in the spectra of 22 H II regions in M31 are used to obtain the amount of visual extinction intrinsic to M31. It is found that visual extinction depends on galactocentric distance, decreasing sharply beyond 12 kpc. The ratio of H I to extinction increases outward, implying that the concentration of molecular hydrogen lies in the inner regions.
