A stellar population with an axisymmetric initial density distribution and a Maxwellian distribution of residual velocities is considered, and its response near the corotation resonance to a spiral perturbation is sought. Compared with the initial state, this response shows an azimuthal variation on both sides of the corotation circle with a density maximum near the imposed spiral arms. The maximum azimuthal contrast is about 20 percent. The density shows a significant drop from inside toward outside the resonance, near the unstable Lagrangian points L1, L2. The results are not much modified when the perturbation is imposed slowly rather than abruptly.
