The announcement of the first detection of signals from ETI is discussed, stressing the importance of obtaining confirmation before announcement. The selection of the announcing body and the shaping of the announcement are addressed. It is suggested that an international non-governmental body and representatives of science journalism should have the major responsibilities in this area.
