Published UBV colours of outer parts of disks of galaxies (beyond the region of clearly defined spiral arms) are analysed. Influence of different factors on the observed colour of a stellar system is discussed. It is shown that star formation is taking place in outer parts of most galaxies considered. Several early-type spirals have colours of external disks which can be accounted for either by a lower metal abundance of stars (in comparison to other galaxies) or by a sharp stop of star formation several billions of years ago.
