Spectrophotometers: Optical Design

Scientific paper

The optical design of a prism spectrophotometer (PSP0) is described. By employing a dual linear CCD (TH7832), the instrument can be used to the low resolution spectra of an object and the nearby background simultaneously in the wide wavelength range from 0.365 μm to 1.0 μm the focal ratio is designed as F/18 and the mean spectral resolution is about 10 nm. The authors present the results of optical ray tracing and experiment for the PSP0 optical design. It is shown that the PSP0 can well satisfy the observational requirements. An example of the test observations made by attaching the PSP0 to the 50 cm telescope at Nagoya University is also described.
