Observations of the variable star HD 79889 were obtained in 1986 using the 40 cm Cassegrain reflector at the Kvistaberg Observatory. Although the light curve of the variable resembles that of a classical cepheid or an RRab variable, the short period of 0.096 days suggest that it could be classified as a dwarf cepheid. A high amplitude of 0.34 m in V is found, and the present data indicate that HD 79889 is a population I Delta Scu variable.
