Based on spectroscopic and photometric observations, secular variations of the pulsation amplitude of 13 Beta CMa stars are examined, and observational limitations on amplitude determinations in radial velocity and light variations are discussed. Long term amplitude variations in BW Vul, Delta Cet, Alpha Vir, Beta CMa, and 16 Lac are confirmed, and are also indicated in Beta Cep, Theta Oph, 15 CMa, and Xi 1 CMa. The linear increase in amplitude seen in BW Vul and Delta Cet is explained by the great lengths of the apparent amplitude variation cycles, with time scales ranging from 30 years to several centuries, in relation to the duration of observation. No correlation between period and amplitude variations is seen. None of the Cepheid amplitude variation interpretations discussed can explain the present phenomenon, though the Cox theory (1980) for Beta CMa is not contradicted by the observed variations.
