The evolution of interstellar clouds to form stars is summarized from a theoretical point of view. The author compares two typical solutions by which the gravitational contraction of cloud is expressed (Larson-Penston vs. Shu solution). In particular, he pays attention to the differences in the evolutions of magentically super- and subcritical clouds. Finally the role of bipolar molecular outflows and optical jets are discussed.
