Variable Stars, Light Curves

Scientific paper

Rho Cas is a cool yellow hyper giant variable star situated in the constellation of Cassiopeia. It is classified by GCVS as a SRd but every fifty years Rho Cas shows a sudden drop of light. The last event, which happened in 2000, was studied by A. Lobel et al. During this event A. Lobel demonstrated the correlation between radial velocity and light curve variations: the radial velocity curve anticipates by about 100 days the shape of the light curve. At the end of 2002 the same conditions of Rho Cas were observed, and AAVSO sent an Alert to all observers. The GRAV began the observations in February 2003 and obtained 202 visual observations of the star from 6 observers. The light curve we obtained, proved that Rho Cas did not show any drop in visual brightness and kept its normal behaviour.
