As the largest gravitationally bound systems in the Universe, clusters of galaxies are potentially powerful probes of fundamental cosmological parameters. The Dark Energy Task Force stated that galaxy clusters have "the statistical potential to exceed the baryon acoustic oscillations and supernovae techniques but at present have the largest systematic errors.” Recently, Chandra X-ray observations have been used to calculate the baryon fraction in rich clusters which, in turn, place limits on the equation of state of Dark Energy with a claimed accuracy of 10%. In this talk, I will use cosmological adaptive mesh refinement N-body/hydro simulations and X-ray observations to critically examine uncertainties and biases in the estimation of properties such as cluster mass. I will discuss the role of cluster-cluster mergers on the formation of cool cores and shocks in the intracluster medium (ICM) which affect estimation of gas masses assuming hydrostatic equilibrium.
