High-resolution gamma ray measurements made by a cryogenically-cooled germanium spectrometer onboard a spin-stabilized, polar-orbiting satellite (1972-076B) launched on October 2, 1972, are reported. Gamma ray pulses with energies ranging from 50 keV to 3 MeV were analyzed using a 4096-channel pulse-height analyzer with fast time resolution. The spectrometer performed initially with an overall energy resolution of equivalent 3.5 keV, and remained operative for over 7 months, but with broader resolution. Some recent results are presented on the diffuse cosmic background below 200 keV, on the 0.511 MeV annihilation radiation from the atmosphere, and on the bremsstrahlung produced in the atmosphere by precipitating energetic electrons at high latitudes.
