It is argued that the stationary energy spectrum given by Melrose (1969) for synchrotron sources resulting from systematic acceleration, energy-space diffusion, and synchrotron losses is unphysical as it requires a constant flow of particles in energy space. The general stationary solution is given. The asymptotic behavior of the time-dependent spectrum is found to depend critically on the boundary conditions; specifically, a stationary flat spectrum does arise for special boundary conditions, but it remains uncertain whether or not the boundary conditions applicable to a real synchrotron source will allow an initially steep spectrum to evolve toward a stationary flat spectrum.
