Research is being pursued with the 120 inch telescope, including extragalactic astronomy and pion stellar sources, interstellar material, gaseous nebulae, the structure and evolution of stars, and planetary atmospheres. Statistics show that the primary use of the telescope during dark-run has shifted from direct photography, low dispersion spectroscopy, and photoelectric photometry at the fine focus to observations with the Robinson-Wampler scanner at the Cassegrain.
