The largest orbiting telescope and a counter for recording X-radiation were installed on the Astron spacecraft. The constellation Andromeda was studied and it was discovered that one of its stars has a companion with a temperature of 60,000 degrees. The star's dimensions are small; its radius is less than the Earth's. Knowledge of the universe's chemistry has expanded. Information on the abundance of individual elements as far as light elements are concerned is extensive, but information regarding heavy ones is far from complete. Tremendous surpluses of lead, tungsten, uranium and thorium in the atmospheres of a number of peculiar stars were discovered. The automatic station Astron has observed more than 20 galaxies. A number of objects which have received no particular attention from astrophysicists posses powerful ultraviolet radiation. They turn out to be galaxies in the constellations Virgo and Leo.
