The luminosities of the components in a number of double-lined O type binaries appear more nearly equal than predicted from their mass ratios. Critical examination shows that this anomaly is best established in the contact binaries LY Aur, V382 Cyg, and 14 Cep, and may be a general property of contact binaries of type O. The published mass ratios of LY Aur and NY Cep require considerable revision, making the two components in each system more nearly equal in mass than given heretofore.
