The physics, assumptions, and procedures used in computing models of solar and stellar structure and their oscillation frequencies are reviewed. The connection between the physics and the assumptions on the one hand, and the observable frequencies on the other, may be regarded as the principal forward (and inverse) problem, with the model serving as a necessary intermediate step. It is shown how the model and its frequencies react to changes in the physics and the assumptions. Tests of numerical precision are discussed. Computed frequencies are compared with the observations.
