Narrow-band photometry has been carried out on TiO band strengths of
stars near the tip of the giant branch in the globular cluster 47 Tuc.
The results are consistent either with a uniform metal deficiency
[M/H] = -0.5 ± 0.1 or, if oxygen is overabundant as implied by
high-dispersion analyses, with [Ti/H] = -0.65 ± 0.2.
