Literature on the comparative meteorology of the planets demonstrates that much can be learned about earth from an investigation of other planets. Much of the material is for Mars and Venus, for which the greatest amount of observational data is available from space probes. Insofar as information allows, the composition of the atmospheres and the properties of the underlying surfaces, the conditions for formation of the thermal regime of the atmospheres and cloud formation, and the characteristics of atmospheric circulation and processes in the upper atmosphere were investigated. Research methods are evaluated: direct measurements, remote sensing, laboratory modeling, and similarity theory.
