The physical meaning of groups of pulsars (and gaps) in the diagram Pvs P is analysed by means of the discriminant analysis. The use of the true age of pulsars allows to obtain two orthogonal discriminant functions, F1 and F2, which give a better statistical estimate of the main physical parameters leading the distribution of pulsars in the diagram F1 vs F2 (transformed of the diagram Pvs P), according to the evolutionary models proposed by some authors.
