The equations of motion are solved for two gravitating pointlike particles by applying the method of the averaging. In this way, an approximate solution valid in a long interval of time (many times the orbital period) is obtained. As a consequence the periastron epochs and the periastron positions present an oscillation, of long period, which disappears in the center-of-mass frame.
