Clear evidence of changes in the details of line profile shapes, velocities, and intensities of components have been noted by a monitoring program for the strong emission line star RU Lup, using echelle spectrograms. The overnight changes in the line-to-continuum ratio support the suggestion that these light variations are caused by nonuniform spatial distribution in chromospheric activity, coupled with stellar rotation. The strength of the 'central' absorption changes from night to night. A nonspherical geometry for the shell, coupled with the 3.7-day rotation, can account for the observed variations, especially if the shell is elongated on one side due to enhanced outflow along open magnetic field lines.
