The Blandford-Rees (1974) model is used to consider the dissipation of the kinetic energy of plasma streams in radio galaxies by the firehose and mirror instabilities. The energy of the resulting magnetohydrodynamic turbulence is estimated in the framework of quasi-linear instability theory. The estimates show that magnetohydrodynamic turbulence can be the energy source that replenishes the energy loss of the relativistic particles on radiation and adiabatic cooling.
