A Bianchi Type I cosmological model with a homogeneous electromagnetic field is studied using the Born-Infeld non-linear electrodynamics. With this approach, it is possible to describe the behaviour of the Universe near the initial singularity, even when the magnetic induction becomes infinite. It is found that the electromagnetic field does not influence in any appreciable way the expansion of the Universe. Implications for other Bianchi models are briefly discussed.
