Outburst and quiescent spectra of moderate (3.5-10 A) resolution are presented for the dwarf novae RX And and KT Per. The changing physical nature of the accretion disks of these objects was investigated by analyzing the spectral line strengths and profiles and their evolution over the course of the outburst cycle. The outburst spectra show complex blends of emission and absorption components in the Balmer series lines which can be clearly distinguished in the case of RX And at 3.5 A resolution. In the outburst spectra of both systems there appears a pronounced narrowing of the emission lines and a steepening of the Balmer decrement, indicating a substantial reduction in the strength of the line emission from the inner part of the disk during outburst. The absorption line shapes in the outburst spectra are better fit by modeled profiles of accretion disk absorption than by pressure broadening in a white dwarf type atmosphere.
