Emission-line data for the sun recorded with beam-foil and fast laser beam modulation spectroscopy are analyzed to determine the solar Er abundance. The discussion focuses on eight Er II lines in the resulting photospheric spectra. Equivalent widths were measured using enlarged Jungfraujoch spectra and account was taken of contributing lines. An abundance of from 0.87-0.99 was calculated, close to that of the meteoritic range.
