A deconvolution procedure was carried out on a high resolution photographic profile of NGC 3379 in an attempt to discern the presence of a point-like source for an observed light cusp in previous scans. Gaussian PSF components in radially symmetric images of the object were expanded in a finite series of gaussian functions. A linear system of equation was extracted from the series approximation and solved with a regularization technique. The calculation failed to confirm the presence of a point source brighter than 21B mag. Further studies with the Space Telescope are recommended.
