Theories advanced by Hori (1966), Mersman (1970), and Deprit (1968) concerning the theory of perturbations in celestial mechanics are considered. A necessary and sufficient condition is found for the equivalence of the Hori-Mersman and Deprit theories. A general analytical relation is found between the Hori-Mersman operator D and the Deprit operator L when the two theories are equivalent.
