The single-line O stars belonging to the southern associations Vel OB1, Car OB1, Cen OB1, and Sco OB1 are studied. Their spectral type is derived in Conti's classification scheme for O stars, amended to include the O9.7 subtype and to deal with fairly high S/N CCD spectra. The behavior of the C and N lines of these stars is studied in order to determine whether CNO-processed material is visible at their surface.
