The distribution function of stellar masses (mass spectra) in stellar formation was investigated. Two fundamentally different models of mass spectra are presented. The mass spectrum models are established on direct fragmentation and hierarchical fragmentation. The kinetic theory is linear in both cases. The model remains linear because the number of original protostars remains the same. The accretion model examines quantitatively the effect of accretion on the shape of the mass spectra. The model shows that variations in the mass spectra of the field star in other galaxies depend on fast dispersion of interstellar gases in the average interstellar magnetic fields. It is found that direct fragmentation is more likely to be the exception and that hierarchical fragmentation is more likely to be the rule.
