Scientific paper

Photoelectric surface colorimetry of M31 is presented. The radial B-V, U-B color gradients are -0.017, -0.028 m/kpc, respectively, to within 10 kpc of the center of the galaxy, and are determined with an uncertainty four times smaller than their values. Both color indices diminish in the spiral structure region, and beyond it they increase again. This dependence of integrated color upon distance reflects changes in the star population.
