Observations of the dwarf companion to Castor have been carried out in the UBV system with particular attention paid to the light contamination problem. The presence of photometric irregularities, some aspects of which ('distortions') were previously discussed by Kron (1952) observing in the visual and infrared regions, has been confirmed. Such irregularities are divided into three types on the basis of timescale: short (on a scale of hours), orbital (0.814 deg), and long (on a scale of months). Possible interpretations for the irregularities are considered. It is suggested that within the 'distortions' correlated to the orbital period, there is a further correlation with phase, though this may be masked to some extent by more random variations. The eclipse profiles are matched by a set of system parameters, making some very simple allowance for the effects of 'distortion' on the secondary minimum. Results are found to be generally in good agreement with previously quoted values. Absolute parameters and a slightly revised period for the system are given.
