Emission-line profiles are calculated for a specific source function in the case of a uniform medium of a certain optical thickness moving with a constant velocity gradient. It is proposed that certain parameters be derived by comparing the calculated profiles with observed ones, and it is shown that the distribution of primary sources can be found when these parameters are substituted in the integral equation of radiative transfer. The theoretical line profiles are compared with those observed in solar-flare spectra, and good agreement is found between them.
