Time-resolved spectroscopy of 2A 0311-227 with 2 A resolution is presented. The observations show large variations in the emission line profiles with orbital phase. A double peaked structure is observed at certain phases, and this appears to move with a larger radial velocity amplitude than the base of the line. Several possible models to explain the double structure are discussed. Comparison with other spectroscopic studies of 2A 0311-227 indicates changes in the behavior of the system on a time scale of months.
