The magnetic fields of the Milky Way can be investigated by various remote sensing methods, in particular in the radio spectral range. The radio Zeeman effect is observed in HI clouds and dense molecular clouds, hence giving information about local conditions only. Radio continuum polarization is generated by the synchrotron process in the magnetic fields present in the emission regions. By observing at different frequencies we can probe different emission regions. Radio waves propagating through the magnetoionic regions of the Galaxy are subject to Faraday rotation. Extragalactic radio sources and pulsars can thus probe the Galactic magnetic fields. A combination of all the methods described above should allow us to perform a `tomography' of the magnetic fields. This report will describe the recent observational results that bring us closer to this goal.
