The U.K. Schmidt telescope on Siding Spring Mountain near Coonabarabran, Australia, which is operated by the UK Science Research Council (SRC), is used in a survey of the southern sky. In the observations use is made of the recently developed fine-grain Eastman Kodak IIIaJ emulsion, which gives a blue/green color response. The survey is conducted jointly with the Schmidt telescope of the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in Chile. The ESO telescope is carrying out the corresponding red survey, using Eastman Kodak 098 emulsion. Attention is given to aspects of sensitization and processing in the case of the IIIaJ plates. Nonsurvey programs are also briefly considered.
