Recent attempts to solve the solar neutrino problem in terms of modified solar interior models are examined. A concise introductory description of the problem is presented, taking into account the discrepancy between the results obtained in the Brookhaven solar neutrino experiment and the prediction provided by standard solar models. Attention is given to Z models, hydrogen-helium inhomogeneities, modified Maxwellian distribution, questions of rapid intermittent mixing, and models with rapidly rotating cores. It is concluded that none of the hypotheses discussed provides a satisfactory solution for the considered problem.
