The article presents an overview of the entire field of quantum cosmology, a review of some particular aspects of the subject emphasizing second-quantized hadronic fields in Friedmann cosmologies that bounce to avoid a cosmological singularity, and prospects of future cosmological research. Combining quantum theory and gravitation in a single approach, different ways of parametrizing the content of quantum cosmology, quantum superspace, and a completely renormalizable theory of quantum gravitation are discussed, along with the time line of Friedmann cosmologies and probing into time soon after and also before the initial singularity. Bouncing of a collapsing cosmology into the expanding phase and the importance of conformally invariant (massless) gravitational fields are discussed. Difficulties in arriving at correct quantization axioms for full quantum cosmology, or quantum field theory in curved Riemannian manifolds, are considered.
