Review of research on the several types of quasar objects and their red shifts. Work on BL Lac objects addresses the questions of their surroundings (located in the nuclei of galaxies), their quasar-like nature, the cosmological relevance of any associated red shift, and whether emission lines are lacking. New data on multiple absorption red-shift quasars are reviewed. The red shifts of high-redshift quasistellar objects are examined.
