Implications of X-ray polarimetry of Her X-1, Cen X-3 and similar binary stars are considered. Two models are presented for polarized X-rays from accretion disks, including the standard disk model, and the realistic disk model. The case of X-rays scattered off the companion star is discussed in detail. It is concluded that X-ray polarimetry could yield important evidence on the radiation mechanism for accreting neutron stars and on the nature of accretion disks around black holes.
